BioCap has been working to hard to build traction for our work unlocking green finance and developing new methods of assessing biodiversity at scale.
We have been successful on 3 individual bids, working with partners from a range of backgrounds to gain funding that will continue our work for the coming years.
European Space Agency (ESA) Biodiversity Metrics Demonstrator
BioCap is partnering with Pemberton.ai, Easol, Ordnance Survey and Sainsbury's on a European Space Agency funded project to develop a Biodiversity Metrics Demonstrator. This builds on our 2022 UFO Biodiversity in Grasslands feasibility study and takes the concept of measuring biodiversity in grasslands using a combination of simple site survey, satellite imagery and other data allied to AI and Machine Learning, forward. BioCap's role is to assist with user interface development and record data.
UK Nature Accelerator Impact Fund
We have secured a place on the UK Nature Accelerator. We are working with Finance Earth to ensure a West Berkshire habitat creation project is ready for investment from the UK Nature Impact Fund.
DEFRA National Investment Readiness Fund
Our bid to the National Investment Readiness Fund round 3 (NEIRF3) was successful and we have funding to work with Finance Earth and landowner partners to explore how farmer/landowner led habitat creation projects might satisfy demand for Natural Capital from corporate buyers. Habitat projects will be designed and the Natural Capital measured. Corporates will be engaged to develop a working methodology for accounting for Natural Capital and to assist Corporates to meet their emerging TNFD, and carbon neutrality requirements. Our aim is to see if we can create a market that will enable habitat creation and help reverse biodiversity loss in the farmed landscape.
